Volunteering Our Hand for

Volunteers are not mere workforce.
A workforce could be good at working, but not at planning or decision-making. The planners and decision-makers could be good at their jobs, but not at executing them. They may be specialists, whereas volunteers are all-rounder. They are good as workers, executioners, planners, decision makers, initiators, and leaders.
Vivekananda Said:
“Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life. Think of it, dream of it, and live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea. This is the way to success, and this is the way great spiritual giants have produced.”
  • To volunteer is to live in accordance with the values of righteousness, selflessness, and above all non-egoistic.
  • To volunteer is to practice humbleness;
  • To volunteer is to live in harmony with Mother Nature, with her qualities of loving, caring, and sharing.
When we volunteer contributing to bringing up “Agathiyar Statue”, a great effort, for the Sage who had rendered his life to the holistic health of Humanity, we are absolutely going to get absorbed in a life turning activity, and so let us all put our hands on together.

Siddha Medication is the oldest documented medical system and pharmacology in the world originated in South India which was professed, practiced and documented by Siddha’s- the ancient supernatural saints of India to benefit the generations to come. The word ‘Siddhi’ means ‘achievement’. The Siddha medicinal practices was popular and was in practice in ancient India even before 2000 BC and due to its antiquity this is believed as the oldest medical system in the entire world. With the systematic application of these practices, this medication will develop the healthy body with physical well being thereby develop a healthy soul. With the available scriptures, it is understood that there were 18 Siddhas. Among them, Sage Agathiyar is the forefather of Siddha Medicine.
The Siddha medicines are the oldest form of Indian traditional treatment and now part of the Indian trio medicines- Ayurveda, Unani and Siddha and it currently being managed by Ministry of Ayush with Government of India.
HMT understands the importance about the incredible practices and findings of the Siddhas which are unique, and our richest heritage which are to be reached out to everyone from generation to generation to understand the concepts, internalize its relevance and put them into the practice. With various field based researches, HMT is documenting the Siddha Medication, one of the Indian Medical Practice Systems, which is our true treasure to the human being. This is the dare need of today to bring back our traditional lifestyle practices and to prevent mankind from diseases, disorders and to apply the practices to contribute the curative therapy for the affected.
The contribution of Siddhas to Siddha literature with its boundless in therapeutics and wonderful pharmaceutical preparation of medicine is acclaimed par excellence even in this 20th century for its worthy of its remarkable results. The Siddha treatment deals not only as a curative agent but also as a preservative, taking care of the external body with its internal being – soul.
The concept of Siddhas is the five primordial elements or pancha boothas i.e., Earth (solid), Water (fluid), Fire (radiance), Air (gas) and Space (akasam). All the matter (both created and evolved) including animal, plants or mineral comes under these five primordial elements. The Siddhas also believed that the human anatomy and physiology, the factors causing disease, the materials used for the treatment and to cure the disease, and food consumed by the living organisms – all of these fall within the five primordial categories.
The Siddha medicines meant for the human body are prepared based on the theory of Panchabuthas (metals of gold, lead, copper, iron and zinc). Gold and lead are used for the maintenance of the body. Iron, the only metal attracted by the electric power of the magnet, and zinc, used for generating electricity, are employed in the medicines which are administered for the extension of life. And copper is used for the preservation of heat in the body.
To spread the Siddha medication systems, practices, explore its origin, understand rich value of the medicinal plants which are the ingredient to Siddha medical practices and to collaborate with allied modern applied sciences on Siddha, HMT would bring out an ambitious project with the name ‘Siddharkal Kottam- A multi disciplinary training cum development center of Siddha practices in Papanasam in Tirunelveli district in Tamilnadu.
To add value to this project, the project location, Pothigai foot hills has its own historical importance in the ancient history that the sage Agathiyar pronounced Lord Muruga in this place. 1. Ancient Siddha medication practices

The contribution by the Siddhas to the Siddha medication is outstanding. The ancient Siddha system of medicine is one of the oldest systems of medicine practiced in South India especially in Tamil Nadu. This Siddha System was framed from the results of the ardent pursuit of Siddhars. The findings of historians and literary works of Siddhars, reveals that Siddha medicine was laid upon on very strong fundamentals. Siddha science strongly believes that what exists in the microcosm is in the macrocosm, in which man is the microcosm and Universe, the macrocosm. Sage Agathiyar, who is considered the fore-father of the Siddha medicine, Eighteenth level Siddhars seem to have contributed much to the development of this medical system. Also Siddhars lead a simple way of life according to the laws of nature and beyond the narrow divisions of caste, creed, religion, colour and nation. Siddha science is a peculiar science that always insists a healthy life style and cures many chronic ailments without producing any side effects.
The aim of Siddha medicine is to make the body perfect, imperishable and to promote longevity. For the healthy life, Siddhars have mentioned daily and seasonal regimen including dietary habits and also insisted some code of ethics. This is the first system to emphasis health as the perfect state of physical, mental, social, moral and spiritual component of human beings.

* Simple and safe medicine
* Very effective for chronic ailments
* Not only have to correct the diseases but it also maintained the perfect body state
* No side effects
* Medicines are palatable
* Appropriate treatment for all age groups
* Specific treatment for Geriatric problems
* Enhance the immunity of growing children
Through this course, the students will understand the in depth concepts of Siddha medicines and practices.
They also practice the Siddha medication with the attached Siddha Hospital in the campus and will also understand more about the herbs that is being used in the Siddha medicine in the widespread campus of the Siddharkal Kottam with organic cultivation.

The medicinal Plants/Herbs are the elixir to the Siddha medication. The importance of these medicinal plants has been well documented by the Siddhars. These plants are innumerable medicinal value. It is a general feeling that the planting of the medicinal plants are in the decreasing trend.
To revitalize the importance of medicinal plants/Herbs cultivation with the organic cultivation concepts this course is proposed. Through the organic cultivation, the fertility of the soil will remain forever and our agrarian practice will also be revived. With the use of the organic cultivation practices, the prevention of the majority of the diseases is also ensured.
The students will get a deeper and real time exposure of the same with the attached herbal garden that is to be promoted with the traditional and organic cultivation practices in the Siddharkal Kottam. This herbal garden is established for the purpose of identification, conservation and hospital utility in the Siddharkal Kottam campus. This will also be enhanced as a Centre for cultivation, process, consume methods in the years to come.
This will also help many rural entrepreneurs from the villagers to try out successful medicinal plantation for a successful entrepreneurship.

While the UN General Assembly (UNGA) declared June 21 as ‘International Day of Yoga’ it is understood the importance of Yoga together with meditation that contributes the healthy living of mankind. Yoga and meditation contributes to sound health and mind. While yoga asserts physical movements of the body, meditation asserts deeper rest, internalizing oneself and cherish dynamic of our activity.
When Yoga and meditation practiced together, it will strengthen the mind body connection, improving overall fitness and well-being. Many styles of yoga combine meditation with the physical routines, which use controlled breathing throughout the yoga poses. Both yoga and meditation, when used consistently, have proven health benefits. Stress Management, Improved Flexibility, Emotional Boost, Better Diet, Improved health are few of the benefits of the yoga and meditation.
One cannot rule out the contributions of Siddhas on Yoga and Meditation. Hence, we also propose the training on Yoga & Meditation course.

Tamil Nadu happened to be the bedrock of very rare fine arts which no other country in the world could boast of. Though these exist, whether veiled or forgotten a few have a life-throb still amongst us. One such is the Art of Thanuology (Varman).
Varma points are the subtle vital points which are present in the various parts of our body. They are classified in to 108 varma points. When these points are injured due to trauma or accident, results in serious neuro-muscular, musculoskeletal and even manifested as some systemic diseases. Such problems are properly treated in Siddha medicine with various herbs, pressure methods and massage techniques. These type of massage and various physical manipulating techniques are called ‘Varmam Therapy” and by this way chronic Rheumatological, traumatological, and neurological problems are successfully treated in Siddha system.
Life is propelled by Prana Vayu (Oxygen). It gives life energy to the 72,000 nerves found in the human body. When the flow of Prana Vayu (Oxygen) is obstructed, life is at stake. The affectations of the human body due to various reasons cause hundreds of diseases. The quantum of measurement on the impact differs from one life (nerve) centre to another in the physical body. This causes several diseases besides leading to death occasionally. These features are dealt with, in ‘Thanuology’ (Varmam) which is a branch of Siddha System of Medicine. This element which is unknown to other systems of Medicine is followed in Siddha System of Medicine from time immemorial.
One fourth of populations all over the world today are suffering from diseases of sorts on account of Varma impacts. With the advancement of scientific knowledge and increased mechanisation, diseases arising out of Varman impacts are also on the increase. The treatment of impact ailments which is unknown to other system of medicine is followed in Siddha System of Medicine from the hoary past.
Hence, this course is proposed and through this course, the students will have a deeper understand and applications on this concept- Varmam Therapy.

Naadi Shastra in Siddha Medicine
In Siddha medicine it is believed that an equilibrated condition of the three humors, bile (pitta), wind (vatha) and phlegm (kapa) is indicative of a good health. All the pathology is based on an imbalance of any of these humors.
All the Siddhars follow a dictum “Ennvagai thervoo” which states the diagnostic procedure to be followed. The diagnosis of disease relies on the study or examination of the following eight features which are evaluated in terms of the three humors.
The ancient text “Agathiyar Vaidya Sangam” also gives the following eight check points:
  • Naadi Pareeksha (studying the pulse)- the Siddhars way.
  • Urine tests.
  • Tests done on the feces.
  • Observation of the Lividity or pallor of the skin.
  • Examination of the tongue.
  • Examination of the eyes.
  • Change in the voice of the patient.
  • Feeling the patient.
The diagnosis in Siddha medical system is unique as it depends majorly on the clinical acumen of the Siddhar.
Out of the eight checkpoints of diagnosis, pulse reading (Sanskrit: Naadi Pareeksha and Tamil: Nati paritchai) forms the most important tool in diagnosing. The reading of the pulse is the principle means to study the natural and disturbed humoral condition.
Pulse reading forms the predominant mode of examining and requires a highly defined sense of touch and fine subjective awareness.
The Naadi in Siddha refers to two things; the pulse and the nerves. The pulse is influenced in health or in a disturbed state by the nerves and their branches in the body.
The art of reading the pulse is like playing the musical instrument ‘Veena.’ The same deftness, dexterity, heightened sense of touch and patience are needed to infer observations from the Naadi. The pulse is read from the hands generally but if a reading cannot be taken from hands other arterial points inclusive of ankle, neck and ear lobes are used. Since the body and the mind change as the day progresses and also the different seasons and climatic conditions affect a person’s physiological and psychological states.
The pulse is felt on the female’s left hand and the male’s right hand. The Siddhar examines the pulse by applying the pressure with one finger after the other on a few centimeters below the wrist.
Any deviation from these normal movements is indicative of the disturbance in a particular humor. If all humors are affected, then the pulse is unusually rapid and voluminous. Seasons and various timings of each day will affect the pulse.
The deviation in the pulse readings from normal represents an abnormality in one of the doshas. A skilled Siddhar or practitioner of Siddha medicine can detect the subtlest of differences in the flow, volume and rate of the pulse by using the tips of three fingers.
With the so-called Naadi’s, one can understand the different diseases and abnormalities in the body function, accurate medication are prescribed with the Siddha practiced and get them back to normal which is a wonderful practice developed by Siddha.
The Siddhars or practitioners of Siddha medicine are so skilled in Naadi Shastra that they can make an accurate prediction just by reading pulse. They have mastered the art of reading pulse to such an extent that they can make their predictions just by reading the pulse without any interrogation!
Considered the importance, the students will be offered this extensive course of Naadi Sasthra at Siddharkal Kottam.

Vaana Sasthra is one of the most important notes that we found from the manuscripts of the Siddha. It is neither astrology nor astronomy. It is a pure science that deals with the planets in the solar system and its motions. According to the manuscripts, each planet in the solar system has its own characteristics. The planetary configuration will have an effect on the human beings. The seasons and its characteristics can also be predicted in accordance with the planetary motions. In ancient Puranas one can find the ‘Pushpaka Vimanas’ the earlier form of rockets, rather a more advanced form which can be seen in today’s science fictions. The Siddhas used to present them at any place and is said to transform to any form as they wish to, the incident of invisibility and travel by time machines still a fiction for us. Vaana Sasthra is to educate the connection of various points in parts of the body to the position of the planets and the minds of a human. For the well being in totality of the humankind, the exploration of Vaana Sasthra is important.
Considering the importance and the benefits of Vaana Sasthra, it is decided to offer courses on Vaana Sasthra at Siddharkal Kottam.

The contribution of Siddhas to the Tamil linguistics is remarkable. Sage Agathiyar compiled the first tamil grammar- Agathiyam. Tamil is one of the oldest languages with strong manuscripts and rich treasures. The Government of India also announced Tamil as a classical language. Many of the foreign origin like Viramamunivar, George Uglow Pope and Caldwell also realized the wonderful Tamil manuscripts and translated into English. The structure of Tamil is such that, word formation, versification, sentence structure, etc are unequalled. The wide ranges of literatures in Tamil are treasures to explore in all the developmental fields.
Considering the background and importance, the course is designed on ancient Tamil linguistics feature and students will learn and research on the same in Siddharkal Kottam.
